If you think ads are inescapable now, just wait a few decades, writes Alex Poulos in the Boston Globe. Future generations will laugh at our primitive tech know-how; the question is “who will laugh last. And I’m afraid it won’t be the consumer,” he writes. Expect ads that are:

    • “Intrusive.” The backs of cabs will have scrolling ads, and pill bottles will have audio messages when you open them.
    • “Invasive.” Struggling towns and stores will likely team up with consumer research companies, watching customers constantly to see how they shop, dine, and have fun. “They’ll call i

Americans have always had a can-do attitude. It was what drove them to create the world’s oldest current democracy. Of course, their faith has been tested many times along the way. The country has survived a Civil War, a Great Depression, and the murders of four presidents. And when it comes to politics, Americans are often divided. Liberals and conservative can’t seem to agree on anything at all. What keeps this ‘Great American Experiment’ intact?  Why, it’s the American Dream, of course.

What defines us as Americans is the belief that any person can succeed if he or she just works hard enough. We know this for a fact when we examine the small business statistics. Did you kn Find more…

  4. It’s Tebow time, everywhere

Love him or hate him, Tim Tebow is a cultural phenomenon. “Tebowing” is the latest Internet meme, and it has inspired everything from high-school suspensions to devotional paintings.

I just caught the clip of last week’s Saturday Night Live sketch poking fun at Tebow, with Jason Sudekis playing Christ sort of like Jeff Bridges played The Dude. (Or maybe it was just the hair?) Pat Robertson was irritated, saying it was disrespectful to Christianity and that “If this had been a Muslim country and they had done that, and had Muhammad doing that stuff, you would have found bombs being thrown off and bodies on the street.” (Entertainment Weekly)

That’s some pretty strong rhetoric, but I think it misses the point.

  5. Know your celebrity news, avoid being stabbed

    A 31-year-old man stabbed a 48-year-old man at a Cleveland-area New Year’s Eve party last weekend after the 31-year-old discovered the 48-year-old didn’t know Jay-Z is Beyonce’s husband.

One might argue that it’s an important piece of celebrity trivia, especially now that the world awaits the arrival of Babyonce. But police apparently didn’t think such ignorance warranted a knifing, and they arrested the stabber shortly after he tried to escape through an apartment window.

According to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, the stabbing victim needed surgery, but police said his life was not in danger.

  6. How do Katy Perry’s evangelical-pastor parents feel about her divorce?

British tabloid The Sun recently ran a headline implying that Katy Perry’s parents Keith and Mary Hudson think their daughter’s divorce from comedian Russell Brand was “a gift from God.”

As they spoke at a Westlake, Ohio, church this week, though, the Hudsons seemed to have little to say on the subject. They were just glad their daughter’s stardom affords them more opportunities to evangelize.

Perry’s parents told the Church on the Rise crowd that they want people to know it’s important to be open-minded as a parent.

The Sun quotes Keith as telling the church congregation to “stop being judgmental and critical.”

“Just because they do not like what you do or what you are, they are still praying that you stay in the race,” he said.

    – Matt LeBlanc has said he would consider reprising his role as Joey Tribbiani in hit TV show “Friends” — because he could use the cash.

LeBlanc, who made more than $1 million per episode in seasons nine and 10 of the NBCedy, was asked by TMZ if he would ever consider a reunion with the gang.

“I wish … I could use the money,” he joked as he left Craft restaurant with his girlfriend Andrea Anders late Saturday.

The New York-based si ran from 1994 to 2004 but so far its cast members, including Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox, have shied away frommitting to a movie version of the show.

“We are all so proud of the show and what we achieved,” Aniston said in 2010.
